GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DORMITORY
About half of the students at Thunderbird Adventist Academy reside in either the girls’ or boys’ dormitory. Part of the fun of academy life is experiencing dormitory life. Dorm students gain additional living skills that enable them to be better prepared for the rigors of college life. Close bonds of friendship develop as a result of living, working, studying, playing, and praying together.
Activities are planned every weekend offering the dormitory student a diversion from their studies. Combined with the Sabbath rest, residents have ample opportunity to clear their minds, refresh and prepare for the next week’s challenges.
All dorm rooms are double occupancy. This format gives our youth occasion to focus less on self and recognize the concerns and needs of others in their world.
Each dormitory has a professional, live-in dean and is assisted by a task force assistant dean giving of their time from college to aid our youth in preparing for life’s challenges. Residence assistants (RAs) work closely with the dormitory deans in providing a home environment for the students residing in the dormitory.
DORMITORY MISSION
The mission for our dormitory program at Thunderbird Adventist Academy is to share with all student residents a vision of the power of God that is available to each one as he/she learns to walk as Jesus walked – in total reliance upon the power of God in their lives.
DORM WORSHIPS
Every evening there is a time of worship in each dormitory where announcements are made and meaningful, insightful, and reflective talks are presented. The students are given the chance to pray either as a body or in small groups, or on occasion to retire to their rooms for personal prayer with their roommate. Evening worship attendance is required, while morning prayer in the lobbies is optional.
STUDY HALLS
Each evening, Sunday through Thursday, a monitored study hall program is provided for the dormitory student. The resident is expected to study in either their room, in the joint, supervised study hall provided in the dorm, or partake of the tutoring program offered by the Counseling/Campus Ministries department. The actual program varies some between the different dorms.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES
Each dormitory has washing machines and dryers available for student use Sunday morning through Friday afternoon. There is no charge to use the machines, but each student is responsible for providing their own laundry soap and dryer sheets.
