NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
Membership in the National Honor Society is both an honor and a responsibility. Students do not apply for membership in the National Honor Society; instead, they provide information to be used by the local selection committee, the Faculty Council, to support their candidacy for membership. The Faculty Council consists of five members of the faculty chosen by the principal. National Honor Society membership is granted only to those students selected by the Faculty Council in each school. Students selected for membership are expected to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership and character.
Members of the junior or senior classes who met the scholastic eligibility will be notified in writing of their eligibility and will be asked to complete and return a Student Activity Information Form. The Student Activity Information Forms, turned into the Faculty Advisor, are reviewed by the Faculty Council. Those students receiving a majority vote of the Faculty Council will be inducted into the Thunderbird Adventist Academy chapter of the National Honor Society.
To be eligible for membership, the NHS candidate:
- Must have a junior or senior class standing.
- Must have been in attendance at Thunderbird Adventist Academy the equivalent of one semester.
- Must have a cumulative scholastic average of at least 87.5 percent, B+ or 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or the equivalent standard of excellence.
- Has demonstrated leadership abilities through being involved in two or more community or school activities, or election to an office during the high school years.
- Has been active in six or more service projects in the school and community during the high school years.
- Has demonstrated a high level of character that is measured in terms of integrity, ethics and cooperation with both students and faculty.
- Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous.
GRADUATING WITH HONORS
